Southwest of downtown Toronto lies Mississauga, where the attractions include Dixie Outlet Mall, said to be the largest enclosed outlet mall in Canada, and Heartland Town Centre, which features 1.9-million square feet of high-end shopping. Among Mississauga’s other attractions are the Mississauga Chinese Centre, StageWest dinner theatre, Lionhead Golf & Country Club and two charming boutique towns: Port Credit and Streetsville.
Visitors to Greater Toronto’s Airport Area may enjoy championship golf at Royal Woodbine Golf Club, gaming at Woodbine Racetrack or shopping at Woodbine Centre, a shopping mall with an indoor amusement park. Also of interest are the Canadian Horse Racing Hall of Fame and the International Centre, which hosts many of Canada’s biggest consumer and trade shows.
West Toronto attractions include Canada’s largest waterpark, Wild Water Kingdom; the Toronto Aerospace Museum; and Bloor West Village, a neighbourhood that retains its Eastern European heritage. Toronto’s largest park, High Park, brings more than one million visitors to West Toronto yearly with its nature trails, zoo, trackless train, gardens and other attractions.
North Toronto, or uptown Toronto, offers day and night skiing at Earl Bales Ski & Snowboard Centre, horseback riding lessons at Sunnybrook Stables and upscale shopping at Yorkdale mall. The area also features the Holocaust Centre of Toronto and the Gibson House Museum, a 19th-century farmhouse.
Only minutes north of Toronto, the York Region lays claim to Canada’s Wonderland theme park; Pacific Mall, an indoor Asian mall with over 400 stores; and Vaughan Mills, a regional shopping centre that boasts a Bass Pro Shops Outdoor World and NASCAR SpeedPark. Unionville’s Main Street invites visitors to enjoy a taste of small-town life.
As the home of Glen Rouge Park, an urban wilderness park, East
Toronto offers plenty of outdoor activities, such as hiking and camping. East Toronto attractions include the Ontario Science Centre, the Toronto Zoo, Riverdale Farm and The Beaches, a Lake Ontario neighbourhood with its own boardwalk.
