Mississauga, the sixth largest city in Canada, is an easy drive from the attractions of downtown Toronto. With more than a few attractions of its own, Mississauga is well worth a visit during any Toronto travel holiday.
Shopaholics find Mississauga a great place to go for retail therapy. One of the best known Mississauga shopping destinations, Dixie Outlet Mall, is the Mississauga outlet shopping centre known as Canada’s largest enclosed outlet mall. Visitors can shop for name-brand fashions at more than 135 outlet stores located there. Mississauga shopping centres also include the Heartland Town Centre, home to more than 125 stores and well over a million square feet of retail space.
Among Mississauga’s unique treasures is a pair of charming villages. Mississauga’s Port Credit is a waterfront village overlooking Lake Ontario. Visitors to Port Credit will discover a variety of shops, boutiques, restaurants and special events, such as the Mississauga Waterfront Festival in June. Dubbed Mississauga’s Village in the City, the community of Streetsville is located on the Credit River and is known for its historic buildings.
Toronto travelers wanting an authentic ethnic experience are sure to appreciate a stop at the Mississauga Chinese Centre. In addition to its shops, Chinese restaurants and Oriental arts and crafts, the Mississauga Chinese Centre showcases several noteworthy architectural features, such as replicas of the Nine Dragon Wall and a fortress on the Great Wall of China.
Mississauga also lays claim to several entertainment and amusement centers. Playdium offers 40,000 square feet of rides, games and interactive attractions, including arcade and redemption games, miniature golf and Go-Karts. Laser Quest is one of several places to play laser tag in the Toronto area, while Air Combat Zone invites thrill-seekers to learn to to fly F/A-18 Hornet jets with its air combat flight simulators.
Other Mississauga attractions include the championship golf courses at Lionhead Golf & Country Club, a member of the Toronto Highlands Golf Trail; Stagewest, an all-suite hotel that boasts its own dinner theatre; and Mississauga’s Living Arts Centre, which hosts live entertainment, art displays, meetings and special events.
