Downtown Toronto hardly has a monopoly on Toronto shopping centres and attractions. Just head uptown and see all the things you can do in North Toronto.
A welcome shopping destination for fashionistas, North Toronto is known for its upscale shopping and designer fashions. Yorkdale Shopping Centre has more than 240 stores and services, among them The Bay, Holt Renfrew and Sears. Even if shopping isn’t one of your favorite things to do, you’ll appreciate a visit to Yorkdale Shopping Centre. The 1.6-million-square-foot North Toronto mall is distinguished by a 60-foot-high, 300-foot-long glass atrium — said to be the largest of its kind in North America. Another North Toronto shopping highlight is the upscale Bayview Village, where the latest fashions are the order of the day.
Also making its home in North Toronto is the Gibson House Museum, a 19th-century farmhouse built by a Scottish immigrant who played a role in early Toronto history. The focus shifts to Europe and World War II at the Holocaust Centre of Toronto. Through its museum, photo displays, Holocaust documentary, Wall of Remembrance and special programs, the Holocaust Centre of Toronto preserves the memories of Holocaust victims and strives to educate the 21st-century public about racism and intolerance.
Arts-lovers can enjoy many an evening of live performances at the Toronto Centre for the Arts. The North Toronto arts centre is home to the 1,727-seat Main Stage Theatre, ideal for opera, ballet and dance performances, as well as the 200-seat Studio Theatre and the George Weston Recital Hall, the acclaimed concert hall that features the Toronto Philharmonia and the Amadeus Choir.
North Toronto is also an appealing destination for outdoor enthusiasts. The Earl Bales Ski & Snowboard Centre offers snowboarding and snow skiing at North Toronto’s Earl Bales Park, while Sunnybrook Stables provides horseback riding instruction for children and adults wanting English riding lessons (Hunter and Dressage).
